GUYS.
SO, I've recently found a series on YouTube called Petscop. I say recently, I mean last year.
It's a "Let's play" format series of a what appears to be a Playstation 1 game titled Petscop. The user is also named Petscop. It's all Petscop.
You may be asking, what are you talking about? Why is this so interesting?
BECAUSE my children, the Petscop game does not exist.
It is all in fact, an art project, or narrative created by an unknown person or team, and they have created a masterpiece.
It's not known if the videos are animated to look like game, or if the game is being produced and programmed in real time, and the footage is someone actually playing the game.
Whatever it may be, the whole this is shrouded in deep deep mystery.
The beginning of the game seems to be a standard explore-collect affair; we are introduced to Paul, the player and narrator, who seems to be recording to prove that the game has hidden secrets. He speaks as if he's talking to a family member or a friend. This theme seems to run throughout the series, in the few occasions he actually speaks.
Here is the very first Petscop:
You have to watch it all to truly appreciate and try to understand what the underlying narrative is, which is still impossible to decipher.
It's delightfully unsettling and impeccably made, a really excellent piece of work
The very latest episode has been released today of all days, on Halloween and what perfect timing!
The scariest one yet!
